Pursuing a career in social work was a natural fit for Shira Galay LMSW. Well before obtaining her MSW credentials at the University of Maryland School of Social Work, Shira worked as a certified personal trainer, focusing on women’s physical and emotional well-being. She mentored her clients to make positive decisions in achieving healthy life styles. Shira has also provided a safe haven in her home for troubled teens struggling with family dysfunction.
As a clinical licensed social worker, Shira has experience providing therapy in person as well as via telehealth to children, adolescents and adults. Her clinical experience encompasses working in partial hospitalization programs (PHP), school environment and family settings. Shira has treated a wide variety of mental illnesses including personality disorder, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar, general anxiety, social anxiety, eating disorders, addictions, depression and postpartum depression.
Utilizing her extensive personal and professional experiences and her positive disposition, Shira focuses on individualized guidance to support clients. By helping clients focus on their strenghts and giving them tools to eliminate stressors, Shira’s therapeutic guidance allows them to achieve their goals. For Shira, the most rewarding aspect of working with clients is empowering them to develop positive life skills and improve relationships. She is excited to be a member of the OMHC staff and looks forward to helping clients realize their full potential.
